Losing hope

When Andrew Bridge was taken into care in November 1970, he little realised he'd spend the next 11 years moving from one home to the next. Now a lawyer working on behalf of foster children, he has written a powerful memoir. In this extract from Hope's Boy, he recalls with heart-wrenching detail his first months in MacLaren Hall - and the last time he saw his mother in court
